BRUSD Timeline For Resuming In-Person Instruction

Dear parents, students, and community members:

BLUE RIDGE TIMELINE FOR RESUMING IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION

Given the significant drop in new cases and reduced percentage of folks testing positive countywide, Blue Ridge Schools may resume in-person schooling before the month’s end. We continue to monitor local and countywide conditions closely.

When safe, initially, all students will return on an A/B alternating schedule (students attending school in-person twice weekly) to ensure effective management of health and safety protocols. Students will continue to work online when not on campus.

The next stage includes inviting grades k-3 to attend four days a week. If we manage this transition successfully, the remaining grade levels will return in phases, allowing for time to evaluate impact.

We may invite small groups of kids in grades (k-3) for on-campus learning in advance of the second phase to meet specific academic and social-emotional needs.

Consistent with state and county requirements, any time we identify two or more positive cases of the virus among students (unrelated and not connected socially), the entire school must close for at least two weeks to sanitize facilities and mitigate spread. In such an instance, the affected campus will resume online-only instruction.

ADJUSTMENT TO 1-5 CURRICULUM

Beginning next week, students in grades 1-5 will start using the Lincoln Learning Platform, the same system used by our Kinder kids.

Changes occurred at the recommendation of our teachers, based upon the difficulty students had independently navigating and completing daily lessons. Students in grades 6-12 will continue using the ASU Prep Digital platform.

Our partnership with Arizona State University remains strong as we continue to leverage content for grades 6-12 and significant supports provided in the area of professional development for online learning.
