Wildfire Response
Dear Blue Ridge Family:
With the heightened danger of wildfires, our first consideration is safety. BR is proactive in its emergency response planning, and we ask for your cooperation in responding to and guarding against potential wildfire emergencies. Our wildfire preparations include the following:
- Instructional Time Model Days (ITM Days): In light of escalating wildfire threats, we may implement ITM Days, where learning transitions to online, ensuring continuity of education. The District intends to announce ITM Days by 5:30 AM to allow parents time to adjust accordingly. We use the same notification process to communicate with our stakeholders during inclement weather and delayed starts.
- Early Release Days: If wind and fire conditions change, fire dangers will be elevated after students and staff arrive. In such cases, we will use an early release pre-K-12 if conditions warrant.
- If evacuation is ordered, protocols are initiated. This status relocates everyone to our elementary school, one of the safest locations in our area, given the school's construction and fire barriers. Students with exceptional needs or medical conditions are identified to ensure appropriate support during transportation and after arrival. We will share reunification plans for parents and students upon arrival.
- Given current conditions, our dedicated bus drivers, including substitutes and emergency personnel, are on high alert, ready to mobilize transportation for urgent evacuations or schedule changes.
- We work with local fire and police departments, leveraging their expertise and resources to enhance our emergency response.
Finally, we encourage parents to reinforce the importance of following all evacuation procedures with their children. We appreciate your cooperation as we strive to secure the BR community against the dangers of wildfires. Please don't hesitate to contact your child's principal or me with any questions or concerns regarding our emergency response efforts. Thank you for your consideration.
Respectfully,
Dr. Mike Wright
