Blue Ridge Unified School District: Supporting Our Native American Students
At Blue Ridge Unified School District (BRUSD), we are committed to providing a culturally responsive and inclusive learning environment for all students, especially our Native American students. We recognize the unique needs and rich heritage of our Native American population and strive to create a supportive educational experience that honors their culture and traditions.
Our Approach:* Indian Education Liaison: BRUSD is proud to have Kimberly Dugdale as our Indian Education Liaison. Ms. Dugdale can be reached at kdugdale@brusd.org or 928-368-6126. She serves as a point of contact for Native American families and communities, advocates for student needs, and coordinates various programs and initiatives.
* Impact Aid: BRUSD leverages Impact Aid funding to support educational programs and services specifically designed to meet the needs of our Native American students. These programs may include:
* Culturally relevant curriculum development and instructional resources
* Native language revitalization programs
* Professional development for staff on culturally responsive pedagogy
* After-school and extracurricular programs that connect with Native American culture
* Title IV, Part A: BRUSD utilizes Title IV, Part A funding to support our Indian Education programs. This federal funding allows us to provide additional resources for Native American students, such as:
* Parent and family engagement activities
* Cultural events and celebrations
* Guest speakers and educational workshops
* Support for students experiencing academic challenges
Our Commitment:
We believe in fostering a learning environment where Native American students feel respected, valued, and empowered. Here are some additional ways BRUSD supports our Native American students:* Integrating Native American history, culture, and perspectives into the curriculum across all grade levels.
* Collaboration with tribal leaders and educational institutions to ensure program effectiveness.
* Providing opportunities for students to participate in traditional cultural activities.
We encourage you to explore our website further and learn more about how BRUSD supports the success of all students, particularly our Native American population. If you have any questions or suggestions, please don't hesitate to contact our Indian Education Liaison, Kimberly Dugdale.
